We're going to be talking about this a lot, even though we don't know what we're talking about. Not yet. We have our ideas, but the result (surprise, surprise) is unknown!
We're invited this year to participate in The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library's annual Banned Books Week Artist Residency. Each year, they invite an artist to live inside the museum during Banned Books Week and create new work. In 2022 they asked if we would be their first band for Banned Books Week. Five Bushwick Book Club songwriters from around the world will be living inside the museum creating new songs exploring banned or challenged literature to be performed in a concert at the end of the week.
Follow spiritchild, Thomas Teller, Patricia Santos, Charlie Nieland and Susan Hwang as they take part in this anti-censorship experiment. We'll be posting throughout the week on IG: @thebushwickbookclub and FB: @bushwickbookclub. You can also follow Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library at IG: @vonnegut_library and FB: @VonnegutLibrary.
In honor of Kurt Vonnegut's 100th birthday year, KVML is extending their Banned Books Week to the entire month of September bringing awareness to censorship and celebrating the freedom to read with workshops, panel discussions and more. Find out about all their events for Banned Books Week on their Facebook page and website.
