Meet the Author: Dr. Brandy Schillace

Her website bio opens like a Roald Dahl book--"I grew up in an underground house, next to a graveyard, in abandoned coal lands… with a pet raccoon." She could have written, 'I grew up in a giant peach that crushed my evil aunts who raised me after my parents were eaten by an unhappy rhinoceros. I now live in New York City with spunky, over-sized insects." The story of Dr. Brandy Schillace's career in all its paths of exploration certainly requires origins no less mysterious and fantastic.
Dr. Schillace is not only a medical historian, journalist and author of non-fiction, she's a novelist, television host and podcast producer. Her imagination and curiosity finds outlets in everything from creating the book-inspired cocktails on her popular YouTube livestream, Peculiar Book Club to sculpting the stop motion figures for the show's opening credits. She also created the video (including segments of stop motion animation) for the song "Her Own Girl" written by Mya Byrne and Susan Hwang inspired by Dora Richter and The Intermediaries .
We're thrilled Brandy will be with us this Wednesday, May 14th at Howl! Arts (250 Bowery, 2nd floor), 6:30pm doors. Books will be available for sale with a book-signing after the show, and there will be Peculiar Book Club merch giveaways.
Come to the show, and talk with Brandy and all the artists responding to THE INTERMEDIARIES: A Weimar Story -- "the forgotten, daring history of trans activists, gender affirming surgeries, and the fight for LGBTQ rights in the shadow of the Third Reich."
