THE (digital) ZINE: Issue 1
The Zine: A Creative Deep Dive
Issue 1 of THE ZINE captures the "vulnerability of sharing new work" from our first solstice-themed show. Inspired by Carolyn McVickar Edwards’ book, The Return of the Light: Twelve Tales from Around the World for the Winter Solstice, the zine features lyrics, original artwork, and intimate "process notes" from over a dozen New York artists.
Readers will find unique insights into the creative minds of local talents, including:
Susan Hwang, who retells the story of the "Sun Cow" with a rhythmic "ass-moving groove.”
Timothy Dark, who captures the frantic energy of writing lyrics on a train ride just hours before the show.
Lianne Smith and Charlie Nieland, who explore the transition from darkness to light through "cosmic tension" and "glittering worlds.”
Kanami Kusajima, who uses the performance to reflect on the "stubborn will to live" through the lens of Norse mythology.
Issue 1 of The Zine is created by Jim Moore of VaudeVisuals.com. All proceeds of zine sales go towards supporting Bushwick Book Club and our mission. Bushwick Book Club is a 501(c)3 arts non profit.
